Short introduction to food in Lefkas.
In Lefkas you will find great food:
Greek specialties prepared at the moment in the Taverns, Pitas (a sort of greek fast food) in the grill houses (psitopolio). Meze a sort of appetisers served in some bars with drinks. There is also a number of Italian restaurants pizzeria and modern restaurants.
Some greek classics are:
Greek salad: A salad of tomatoes, onion, olives, cucumber. There is a variation with a slice of feta cheese.
Taramasalata
Tzaziki: yogurt and garlic blended togheter
Moussaka: Can be considered the national speciality, layers of sliced eggplants in tomato sauce with potato and minced meat and besciamell sauce.
Souvlaki: Roasted dices of meat in the variation of chicken or pork.
Fish Dishes:
Try the Octopus prepared in the version in vinegar or grilled.
astakos: Lobster, often served in a bed of spaghetti in red sauce
Garides: Prawns
Gavros and Sardines
Sweets:
-baklava
-kataifi
-galaktoboureko
-yogurt with honey
As wines try the Retsina. As beers you will find anywhere the greek Mythos, while among foreign beers the favourites are Heineken and Amstel.
An alcoholic traditional drink is the Ouzo. Don’t forget to try the frappe‘ “Sketo” means without sugar, “metrio” means medium sweet “gliko” very sweet.

For fish recommended Sivota, Ligia, in the east coast.
In Ligia go at the Seven Islands. Great service and great scenic settings: You will eat on the sea, as at summer 2011 you can eat on a rock with sea at 2 meters if you wish. And of course great fresh fish. If you tell Georgio or Marion you are following the recommendations of Giancarlo the Italian.
Thimari in central Lefkada town
Try Dalton near the Marina if in Lefkada town. You will find about everywhere. At moment of writing with about 2 Euro you can order a Pita: A sort of rolled pizza with meat, salad and sauces inside (Similar to Kebab). Eating at Grill Houses is a very economic way to eat out in Lefkada.

Sea Gull is Ligia is an unique place because of its position just in front of sea with view of Ligia Port and Greece mainland in the background. You will find here good crepes. Offers Free WI-FI.
Pepe le pew in Nikiana Great place with comfortable sofas, Free Wi-Fi good coffee. Good refuge during hot days because of the excellent air-condition system.
